Seasons Greetings Eskrimador - Los Angeles Doce Pares

Seasons Greetings, Eskrimador!

As this month rolls into the holiday season and we begin another year of “Multi-Style” System of Eskrima training, I would like to convey my most sincere gratitude to all who have supported Los Angeles Doce Pares for 2014.

It has been a good year for us owing much to the dedication of Senior instructors Guro Gary Gabisan, Guro Timothy Piering, Guro Andy Leeka and our newly promoted 1st degree Black Belt students as they have surpassed the rigorous testing of the World Headquarters in Cebu City, Philippines in order to be dully certified and recognized for their proficiency of Doce Pares “Multi-Style System” of Eskrima training curriculum.

Daghang Salamat

And on behalf of our Los Angeles Doce Pares senior instructors and newly promoted Black Belt students, we thank:

  • Grandmaster Arnulfo “Dong” Cuesta and Grandmaster Steve Wolk of Philippine Integrated Martial Arts (PIMA) for their continuing support and recognition. http://eskrimador.org/
  • Master Nilo Baron and senior instructors of Filipino Martial Arts Academy (FMAA) for another successful “River City Rumble” tournament; in which Team LADP garnered the 3rd overall champion award. http://www.fmaadocepares.com/
  • Master Mike McKenzie and senior instructors of “Sacramento Yaw-Yan Ardigma/Doce Pares” for inviting us to witness their grand opening day. https://www.facebook.com/yawyanardigmasacramento
  • Sharon and Philip Oshiro, Celina Duffy, David Polcyn, Ben Aranda of The Rotary Club of Historic Filipino Town and the rest of the organizers of “A Fighting Chance” charity seminar allowing us to showcase our Filipino martial arts offering in Southern California for the benefit of those affected by typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. https://www.facebook.com/rchifn
  • The San Carlos City Association of Los Angeles headed by Mr. Daniel Salvador for inviting us to perform a Filipino martial arts demonstration during their 22nd Anniversary Fiesta. http://www.sancarloscity.org
  • Guro Anthony and wife Jane Castro for always being our most gracious hosts in our events. Ephrem Martinez and Ruth Arcilla for always making sure our events are prepared as planned.
  • Mel “the Marksman” Dimacali for the diligent coordination and scheduling of LADP events and activities.

LADP Tenth Year Anniversary

2014 also marks our tenth year anniversary; we could not have achieved this milestone without the wisdom and guidance of Supreme Grandmaster Dionisio “Diony” Canete, ODL (Order of Datu Lapu-Lapu) and the support of the world headquarters officers headed by Masters Percival Pableo and Gerald Canete.

Here’s to more years of propagating the learning and preservation of authentic traditional Filipino martial arts in Los Angeles!

Mabuhay!

8th_River_City_Rumble

Eskrimador, the “Rumble” is upon us!

The Filipino Martial Arts Academy (FMAA), the Doce Pares Multi-Style System West Coast headquarters will be hosting their “8th River City Rumble” tournament this coming August 30th (Saturday) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Sacramento.

The River City Rumble is one of the most fun and family oriented tournaments this side of the West Coast!

The events available to compete in will be traditional and modern forms competition, stick and single-stick/double-stick continuous sparring and knife/stick point-system sparring.

It’s a good opportunity to test out skills you’ve learned so far, know what works and what doesn’t, all within a contained friendly atmosphere. You’ll also get to meet other Eskrima enthusiasts and represent Los Angeles Doce Pares!

Cost wise, the first event you’ll join will be $45 and it will be $15 for each additional event thereafter. You can also join in on the bill split we’ll be organizing for the lodging, vehicle rental and gas expenses. On average, you’d spend just about $200* for one event with hotel, rental and gas all in!

MD

*- calculation based on 5 members sharing $125.50 per night for 2 nights on booking rooms, renting a 5-seater sedan at the current rate of $112.00 for 3 days and gas prices at $4.98 per gallon traveling 788 miles both ways.

LA Doce Pares Eskrima / Forex Cargo Clothing & Toy Drive

Clothing & Toy Drive for Haiyan Survivors (Deadline June 15th)

Los Angeles Doce Pares Eskrima - Forex Cargo

From today until June 15: LADP / Forex Cargo clothing and toy drive for the social rehabilitation of Haiyan Survivors

Of the almost 85000 Visayan island residents of the Philippines displaced by typhoon Haiyan, most have had only the clothes they had on as they hurriedly left their homes in panicked search of safer grounds. Families are now living in temporary housing shelters provided by the Philippine government, subsidized in part by international charity organizations.

Master Erwin Mosqueda in cooperation with Forex Cargo (https://www.forexworld.us) of Long Beach thru Mr. Epifanio Fernandez (Guro Toy) will be running a used/unused clothing and toy drive from today until June 15.

Now’s a good time to check the attic or basement for “that shirt you haven’t worn since forever” and child-safe toys you’ve outgrown.

Toys and clothing can be in used or unused condition; although we do require that they be free of stains, rips, previous owner modification and have all working parts in order.

Places and times you may drop off items for donation will either be directly to Forex Cargo of Long Beach (320 W. Willow St. Long Beach CA 90806) on regular business hours or dropped off during class at any of your designated training locations.

You may coordinate with Guro Toy directly: ExxMxxF@me.com
